Learn About the Asian Semi-longhair

History

Asian Semi-longhair is a stunning breed of felines which originated in Britain during the 1980’s. They are often called the Tiffanie. Their origin are said to involve an trial breeding of the Chinchillas with the long-haired Burmilla cats. What came out as a result was a semi-longhaired beautiful cat. It had a silky bur and it seemed to love affection and play. Afterwards, the breed was selectively developed and became recognized by the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy of United Kingdom. However, the Asian Semi-longhair is still not identified in the United States.

Description

Asian Semi-longhairs can be seen in different colors and patterns. The five main colors are black, brown, chocolate, blue and lilac. Their fur is shiny, luxurious and silky. Their eyes are gorgeous shades of green. It is lined along with the lips. This trait adds up to the cat’s beauty. This breed is quite similar to the Asian Shorthair but with a semi-long fur. They like to roam around with elegance and class.

Temperament

The Asian Semi-longhair is a curious and active breed, yet a gentle feline. They get really attached to their owners. However, they may feel jealousy with other cats resulting in a few feuds here and there. They are spirited and would expect their owners to allot time for them to play with. If you live in a small apartment, this cat may not be for you since they can be very vocal. They are described as talkative, loyal, loving, dependent, demanding, active and curious. If you want a playmate and companion, the Tiffanie can be a great one. You can expect to have a very vocal companion that would voice out its feelings on just about anything.

These sweet Asian Semi-longhairs have a personality and behavior that is a mixture of their parent breeds. They have the easygoing nature of the Persian as well as the mischievousness of the Burmese. Some are outgoing and demanding while some can be laid back and content to grooming themselves indoors. They are loving and intelligent felines above all.

Health

The Asian Semi-longhair is an indoor cat, therefore prone to all the ailments and illnesses of their kind. The owner should dedicate time not only to play with the Tiffanie, but also to make a trip to the veterinarian. They may need regular deworming to prevent the dominance of round, rape, hook and whip worms. Ticks, fleas and ear mites should be checked and treated in case these are present. It is recommended to have your cat vaccinated for protection from common cat diseases such as Calicivirus and Feline Enteritis. They need regular grooming and nail clipping to help keep them in tiptop shape.

Care

The coat of the American Semi-longhair is soft and silky. It appears to be longer at the neck ruff and with a plum-like tail. To keep your cat in good condition, you need to have it groomed weekly. Their coat colors and patterns are similar with those of the Asian cat. There are no known exclusive diseases that seem to affect the Tiffanie. However, be sure to consult your veterinarian on what preventive measures should be done for the most common feline diseases.
