Dogo Guatemalteco History
Also known as the Bull Terrier Guatemalteco and the Guatemalan Bull Terrier, the Dogo Guatemalteco is a protective and loyal breed. We can trace back the Dogo Guatemalteco origin back to 1930’s Guatemala. It is when Hector Montenegro, the breeder, start his experiment with crossing different dog breeds hoping to create a superior guardian dog. He cross breed the white Bull Terrier, Dalmatian, and the Boxer, and the resul is a Dogo Guatemalteco.
Dogo Guatemalteco is a variant of the breed bulldog , characteristic of Guatemala . Dogo Guatemalteco is a dog guardian. These dogs were originally bred for bull baiting and fighting in the pits, against other dogs, badgers and vermins. Even today, they are famous for their tenacity, ferocity, stamina, and intelligence. Known as the ‘Gladiator’ among his canine mates, Dogo Guatemalteco not only makes a great fighter, but is also a good defender.
Dogo Guatemalteco Description
A dog that stands out to be a good steward, is of medium height and slightly longer than tall, so it does not look totally square. His head is rather square and their lips are slightly hanging, his jaw is quite strong and is in scissor bite. Their ears are somewhat remarkable and can either stand in the natural pendent style or be a bit cropped up, like Boxer or Doberman. They have tight skin and smooth, dense coat that is a little rough to the touch.
Dogo Guatelmateco somewhat resembles the American Pit Bull Terrier and to some extent, the American Bulldog as well. This medium-sized white breed is muscular and has a tall body. It has a large square head, square muzzle, and strong undershot jaw.

The Dogo Guatemalteco has been bred primarily as a guard dog (and to a lesser extent for dog fighting) and exhibits those traits one would expect of such a breed. The Dogo Argentino is known to be extremely loyal to its family, with whom it forms very deep and intense bonds.
It is a highly sociable dog with people. Shortly territorial. Aggressive toward other dogs. He has a good temperament when training normally requires between 4 and 5 runs to learn a new order. It can be friendly with other canine companions and even visitors, if trained to do so. This breed of dogs isn’t very active, but won’t mind playing with you and even accompanying you on long walks. It makes an excellent guardian too.

Dogo Guatemalteco needs a daily activities like walking next to its owner not to get bored, because it is an energetic dog and can become destructive and stressed by not using the power it has.
Dogo Guatelmateco needs very little maintenance. Because of its short coat, occasional brushing would do. Also, everyday bathing is not required, though regular ear and oral cleaning will help.
